Provides complex mental health services to the campus community, including individual, couples and group counseling and therapy; crisis intervention; and, supervision and training of doctoral interns and graduate students in counseling and clinical psychology. Provides leadership in consultation and outreach services and psychological assessments.

  • Provides individual, couples and group counseling to students, staff and faculty.
  • Responsible for outreach/consultation services to the campus community, and serves as a guide to lower level counselors.
  • Provides intake and on-call services to clients with personal, vocational and academic concerns.
  • Performs psychological/psycho-educational assessments and recommends suitable services.
  • Maintains appropriate case documentation, supervision and evaluation records.
  • Serves on university committees and participates in university programs as requested by supervisor.
  • Conducts training/assessment seminars; provides orientation; teaches classes.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Doctoral and 1 year experience.

Doctorate in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or other degree acceptable to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP)Completed one year full-time supervised internship in APA-Accredited college or university counseling center or other relevant setting or one year postdoctoral. Eligible to become a licensed psychologist in the State of Texas or newly licensed (1-3 years).

Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience.

The University of Houston’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is a vital department within the Health and Well-Being (HWB) portfolio. We work closely with our HWB partners, which include the Student Health Center, Campus Recreation, UH Wellness, Center for Students with DisABILITIES, and Cougars in Recovery. CAPS is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services and also offers an APA accredited internship in Health Service Psychology. Our staff consists of licensed psychologists, doctoral and masters level mental health professionals, and advanced graduate trainees in counseling and clinical psychology. Within our new stepped care model, our services include triage, essential skills workshops, single session therapy, group counseling, short-term couples and individual counseling. We work closely with the office of Psychiatry within the Student Health Center, and Lone Star Circle of Care, the FQHC within our building. We also offer a large number of resources and outreach to include “Let’s Talk”, QPR, and our newest “Coog’s Conquer” Series.
