Schedule: Students are required to work no more than 10 hours a week.

Job Description:

Students will work at the direction of the Principal Investigator in an "Independent Study in Astronomy". Students will be exposed to real world science through a case study of "high energy electromagnetic spectrum" through intensive reading, followed by hands-on research experience on galaxy CGM.

Project introduces undergraduate students to research under the guidance of Dr. Anjali Gupta at Columbus State Community College. Students experience the process of research as a creative intellectual activity and gain a more realistic view of the opportunities and demands of a professional research career. Students carry out the work over Summer semester from June 1st to August 15th. At the conclusion of the project, they submit a technical paper and a descriptive research report.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of: customer service, entry-level practices and procedures within assigned area.

Skill in: operation of job-related equipment and other equipment.

Ability to: follow oral and basic written instructions; provide basic assistance and support to department or functional area; maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and other job contacts; problem solve routine matters on behalf of customers.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED with at least six months to one year experience in a general support role of a related functional area. Certifications relevant to job assignment may be required and gained following employment [e.g. forklift certification]. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s). Must be enrolled in a course that aligns with Astronomy.
