Temple University invites applicants for an Associate Vice President of Development. 

DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement (VPIA), the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Development provides strategic leadership and direction to central major and principal gift fundraising operations, including Principal Gifts, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Gift Planning, and Regional Giving, as well as 12 of the university’s college and unit-based fundraising programs. The AVP leads the Principal Gifts team, which assists the President’s and VPIA’s offices with high-level prospects.  The AVP establishes annual goals using agreed-upon metrics and best practices, provides training and mentoring to fundraising staff, and maintains a portfolio of 30-40 major and principal gift prospects.   

The AVP works closely with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and in collaboration with the deans and directors in managing Temple’s advancement efforts and is a member of the senior leadership team.  In collaboration with the VPIA and the Associate Vice President of Campaign Planning, the position will participate in pre-campaign planning and strategy and will be directly involved with the planning and implementation for Temple’s upcoming campaign.  

This person must be a highly energetic, organized, and enthusiastic professional with a track record of building high level donor relationships, working collaboratively and strategically, and demonstrate a strong knowledge of the principles, ethics and practices of successful fundraising including gift planning and financial management.  

Required Education & Experience

Master's degree and at least ten years of higher education/alumni fundraising experience with a proven track record of closing major and principal gifts. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  A demonstrated commitment to the role and importance of higher education is essential. A demonstrated ability to lead a senior fundraising staff.

*Excellent interpersonal skills are required with the ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals both inside and outside of the university 

*Prepare clear, concise and effective correspondence, reports and other documents 

*Entrepreneurial skills in identifying donors and cultivating meaningful relationships 

*Ability to work collaboratively and strategically, and demonstrate a strong knowledge of the principles, ethics and practices of successful fundraising including gift planning and financial management 

*Ability to travel and work evening and weekend hours 

Preferred:

*Master's degree 

*Experience in a higher learning setting
