Salary Range: $38,583 - $61,733 (depending on qualifications)
BASIC JOB FUNCTION:
As a Guilford Guide, you will be joining an innovative group of professional advisors in the Guided Discovery program. An integrated and holistic academic, career, and wellness advising office, Guided Discovery supports students throughout their college career. This developing, team-based advising program connects all students with faculty, staff, alumni, campus resources, and community partners. Guilford Guides play a vital role in ensuring that every student benefits from expert mentorship to navigate the challenges and opportunities they encounter on their path toward personal discovery and achievement. This position offers a unique chance to be part of an emerging program and team, and to co-design an innovative approach to student success in the context of a vibrant and dedicated liberal arts environment.
Guilford Guides are central to The Guilford Edge, a college-wide initiative which includes major curriculum revisions and an innovative calendar being implemented in Fall 2019. Primary Responsibilities of Guilford Guides:

Engage in exploratory conversations
with students identifying interests, assessing strengths, and
setting aspirations in order to offer guidance regarding academic
planning and pursuit of career goals
Help students develop and maintain a
networking team
Teach courses related to first-year
transition-to-college, academic success, or career planning
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and
campus support service offices to advocate for students’ needs

Stay abreast of changing
institutional information including admission requirements, new
programs, curriculum, deadlines, important dates, and costs in
college-wide initiatives.
Train and mentor Student Peer
Leaders
Within Guided Discovery, integrated
Academic or Career advising supports assigned advisees and all
Guilford students.

Academic Advising includes as a
primary academic advisor to a cohort of students for their first
two years within a grouping of majors (“Pathways”); maintain a
working knowledge of academic requirements within the Pathway;
advise for registration; review and interpret degree audits,
transcripts, placement, etc.; develop materials for individual and
team advising sessions; intervene with academically struggling
students
Career Advising includes developing
and delivering exploratory and career-focused
programming/workshops/classes; offer career advising services for
all students including resume editing, cover letter composition,
internship searches, job searches, interview preparation, graduate
school preparation and professional social media editing; research
career-specific opportunities for the designated pathway
majors/minors

provide culturally responsive leadership and advising
Ability to relate to undergraduate
students so they feel comfortable in seeking advice
Exceptional interpersonal and
communication skills, both verbal and written
Demonstrated ability to work
independently and collaboratively and to maintain
confidentiality
Demonstrated excellence in planning
and organizing work; keeping adequate records and effectively
communicating results; coordinating with others to complete tasks
in a timely manner; and bringing work flows to a successful
conclusion
Knowledge of student development
theories and familiarity with current advising trends/best
practices
Knowledge of career development best
practices, trends, and values/strengths based assessment tools
Demonstrable proficiency with MS
Word, Excel, Google email and web applications; knowledge of
Banner, EAB/Navigate or similar student database software
preferred
Familiarity and skill with online
recruiting programs a plus
International and multicultural
experience preferred
REQUIREMENTS (SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS):
Education:

Minimum of a Master’s Degree in a
related field required.
Experience:
-
Required professional
experience in higher education or related field (preferred 2-3
years), e.g. teaching, academic affairs, counseling, career
development.
