Summary

The Section of Transition Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a compassionate and reliable Medical Assistant to support the clinicians providing primary care services to patients with intellectual developmental disorders. The Transition Medicine clinic sees adults age 19 and older with the following diagnosis: autism, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, and down syndrome. In this position, the individual will have administrative and clinical duties such as, checking patients in and out from their visit, scheduling follow-up visits, room patients, and will assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the physician.

Job Duties
  • Manages supplies weekly and reports to Administrative Coordinator what is needed.
  • Coordinates checking patients in and out from their visit, collecting co-pays, and scheduling follow-up appointments.
  • Assits in clinic, rooms patients, checks and documents vital signs, confirms patient allergies, and completes medication reconciliation. Gives injections and/or medicine as directed by the physicians.
  • Manages clinic faxes.
  • Completes forms for patients such as T19s, confirmation of orders, written orders, plan of cares, FMLA requests, and transportation forms for MTM and EMS.
  • Coordinates new patient appointments by signing new patients up for MyChart and sending them the new patient questionnaire form. Once received and approved by the Medical Director, the MA schedules the appointment.
  • Manages desktop calls from patients.
  • Completes refill requests for patients.
  • Schedules patient appointments as directed by the physicians.
  • Completes other tasks by the Practice Manager or Lead Nurse.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA).
