About the Opportunity:
The Senior Accountant for Operations is responsible for the daily accounting operations required to manage the University's operating budget and general ledger net assets. This position has responsibility and accountability for general accounting, reconciliations, and financial compliance for the University. This person provides assistance to the Associate Controller and the Assistant Controller in the management, preparation and administration of financial reporting. The individual prepares accounting transactions and account reconciliations, provides relevant fiscal information to the executive management team. This position is also responsible for overseeing and ensuring the integrity of data flows from all interfaces into the Banner financial system. The Senior Accountant for Operations also supports the preparation of the University's annual financial statements and annual review by external auditors.

Responsibilities:
Coordinate ongoing financial operations. Coordinate University daily, monthly and yearly financial processes including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, University Service Centers and all other functions affecting University financial operations. Review all accounting entries for completeness and accuracy before they are entered in the system. Respond to user needs relating to information flow and inquiries on accounting journal entries, compound journal entries, cash receipt and disbursement entries, expense and revenue account activity, from the Accounting staff as well as the University community. Respond to requests regarding account balances, internal and external expenditures, transfers of funding. Prepare ad hoc and reconciliation reports weekly, monthly and/or as needed.

Manage process flows and accounting distribution flows in the University financial system, currently Banner Finance. Oversee all additions and changes to funds and accounts for assets, liabilities and general ledger transfers including their placement in the Banner hierarchy. Identify new or changed flows. Define and ensure timely implementation of appropriate new controls. Communicate new controls and procedures to all departments affected. Monitor and ensure timely resolution of exceptions. Provide information on processes, data flow and internal controls to internal and external auditors. Account for all debt related activities, including financial statement presentation and assurance that all debt is properly stated on the University financial statements.

Assist in preparation of the University year-end audit and financial statements. Prepare, schedule and coordinate activity related to general accounting with external and internal auditors. Respond to interim and final audit information requests. Prepare supporting schedules, reconciliations and other year-end analyses to ensure accuracy of the financial statement presentation. Ad-hoc projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a driven accounting professional, a go-getter who is flexible, capable of working on multiple projects, and comfortable working in a fast-paced deadline-driven work environment. As a motivated problem-solver the individual will take initiative to identify opportunities for and implementation of business process improvement efforts; this would include the experience or ability to automate processes and create efficiencies. Attention to detail, accuracy, and a high degree of motivation is crucial for this role. Also important is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with team members and other business partners. The incumbent will have strong analytical, organizational and time management skills, and strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with both senior management and subordinates. This person must be able to see the big picture, able to conceptualize the flow of data from numerous subsystems and to identify the potential system-wide impact of changes. A bachelor's degree in Accounting and a minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience are required.


Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced Excel skills, including use of pivot tables and VLOOKUP are a plus.
