USC Rossier School of Education

Open Rank (Assistant/Associate/Full – Non-Tenure Track) Position

Master’s Program – Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs

On-campus Appointment

The University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education invites applicants for an on-campus, open rank faculty position in Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs (PASA) program in the Master’s degree programs: https://rossier.usc.edu/programs/masters/

The mission of the USC Rossier School of Education is to prepare leaders to achieve educational equity through practice, research and policy. We work to improve learning opportunities and outcomes in urban settings and to address disparities that affect historically marginalized groups. We teach our students to value and respect the cultural context of the communities in which they work and to interrogate the systems of power that shape policies and practices. Through innovative thinking and research, we strive to solve the most intractable educational problems.

The position is an instructional, non-tenure track, on-campus faculty appointment with a 12-month renewable contract. Non-tenure track, on-campus faculty in the Rossier School typically have a profile of 80% teaching (24 academic units) and a 20% service expectation including some combination of, but not limited to, curriculum development, course oversight, recruitment and admissions activities, and participation on school and university committees.

The Master of Education in Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs (PASA) program prepares students for a variety of professional roles in higher education administration and student affairs, including student advocacy, campus activities, athletic programs, residential life and academic advising. Students learn how to address inequities and effect change, ensure that student voices are heard and help students realize their full potential. Graduates from this program typically work in two- and four-year institutions, public research universities, private liberal arts colleges, and graduate or professional schools.

We seek applicants with professional experience and proven success in higher education administration and student affairs. Candidates must demonstrate graduate level teaching experience with an emphasis on student development, history of higher education, as well as equity, diversity, and inclusion. Candidates with practice-based, teaching, and/or research experience that concentrates on policy related to equity, improving opportunity, and increasing educational outcomes for historically underrepresented groups are especially desired.

The Rossier School of Education is ranked in the top 10 private schools of education by the U.S. News and World Report. Our faculty is nationally recognized in terms of scholarly activity, external research funding and professional service. Our work is guided by five sets of values, characterized as: results-oriented, collaborative inquiry, combine research and practice, innovation, and commitment to diversity, which is improving urban education locally, nationally, and globally. We achieve this mission through rigorous scholarship, innovative degree programs and multiple partnerships with schools, community groups and other organizations.

The university particularly encourages members of underrepresented groups, veterans and individuals with disabilities to apply. USC will make reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with known disabilities unless doing so would result in an undue hardship. Further information is available by contacting uschr@usc.edu.

A doctoral degree or other terminal degree is required. Preference may be given to individuals with extensive experience in higher education administration and student affairs in order to translate theory to practice. Candidates with a background and commitment to equity and improving opportunity and outcomes for historically underserved groups are especially desired.

Applicants must provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and three names for references. The cover letter should include specific examples of applicant’s commitment to equity and improving opportunity and outcomes for historically underserved groups. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
