The School of Sciences at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for the position of Pre-Health Professions Coordinator beginning Fall 2021. The professional obligation is for a ten-month academic year. Expectations are to provide advising and support services to students interested in health professions. The Coordinator will work closely with students, faculty, staff, Dean of Sciences, academic advising, graduate schools, and other stakeholders to address issues related to pre-health professions programs.

 

SUNY Oneonta is a public college in Central New York, enrolling about 6,500 students in bachelor’s, master’s and graduate certificate programs. Most of SUNY Oneonta’s main campus lies within the City of Oneonta, which is located in the northern foothills of the Catskill Mountains, about a four-hour drive from New York City, Boston and Philadelphia. With a population just shy of 14,000, the City of Oneonta is the largest municipality in a rural region dominated by agriculture and tourism.

Duties include but not limited to: advising students who have declared a career interest in fields such as medicine, physical and occupational therapy, dental, veterinary, or other health professions schools; teaching one course per academic year in any department affiliated with pre-health; chairing the Health Professions Advisory Committee; coordinating internships for healthcare experiences; planning on-campus informational programming; acting as the pre-health professions spokesperson during Open Houses and other admissions-related events; maintaining data and statistics on the number of pre-health students, applications, and acceptance rates; maintaining the Pre-Health Professions website; creating and maintaining articulation agreements with health professional schools; attending national and/or regional conferences of NAAHP and/or NEAAHP;  liaising with medical schools; networking with Academic Advisement, Admissions, and Career Development; and performing other essential duties specific to the position.  Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.

 

Required Qualifications:  bachelor’s degree in a biological or physical science or pre-health professions discipline; two years of experience in student advising, a healthcare field, or college-level teaching. 

 

Preferred: master's degree in higher education or a field related to academic advising or healthcare; experience in higher education student advising; experience building partnerships with external constituents; and experience working with and serving diverse populations.
