Purpose:

The School of Education at Mount St. Joseph University invites applications for a full-time (10-month), reading science term instructor. The position will begin in August of 2021. The successful candidate will have a strong background in reading science, certification by IMSLEC or the Academy of Orton Gillingham to teach and supervise Orton Gillingham, experience teaching preschool, and at least 5 years of teaching experience in preschool-grade 5 public schools. Duties:

The candidate will be expected to teach a variety of courses in the graduate reading science program and supervise students in the Orton Gillingham practicum. Additional responsibilities may include:

* Advising students

* Monitoring and refining degree programs

* Supporting student recruitment efforts

* Support development & research on the Project Ready preschool project

* Providing service to the undergraduate or graduate program, department, university, and the professional community

* Demonstrated ability and commitment towards diversity, equity, and inclusion.

* Contributes to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; exploring new opportunities to enhance the services of the division; helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed. Education: Masters degree in reading science. Experience: Extensive experience preparing practitioners in evidence-based educational practices; experience working with diverse students, families, and schools; and a proven record of teaching and supervision of Orton Gillingham's approach to reading. Specialized Training: Orton Gillingham training, preschool training, Edthena Skills/Attributes

  • Multiple service hours; computer data input; multiple concurrent tasks with service interruptions; extensive customer contact; strict confidentiality; detailed work.
