About the Opportunity:
The Coordinator of Campus Recreation- Fitness is responsible for the continued development and administration of the Northeastern University Campus Recreation Department's Fitness Programs. Under the direction of the Associate Director of Campus Recreation - Fitness & Facilities, this position coordinates the scheduling and supervision of comprehensive group fitness and personal training programs serving the needs of a 21,000 student population, which includes the training, development, hiring, and evaluation of the group fitness instructors and personal trainers.

Responsibilities:
This position supports the Associate Director of Campus Recreation - Fitness and Facilities through further development of a Comprehensive Fitness Program including the supervision of the Fitness Consultants, Equipment Technicians, and Fitness Administrative Assistant Teams, and assists with the planning and implementation of fitness special events.The scope of this position encompasses not only fitness programming, but continued assessment and upkeep of all fitness equipment located in the Marino Center, Badger & Rosen Center, the outdoor functional fitness area, along with administration of best practices in fitness area supervision. Provides leadership and supervision for assigned campus recreation facilities and personnel. This individual will serve as a supervisor of student employees, interns and temporary non student employees for Campus Recreation. As a member of the Campus Recreation team, the Coordinator of Campus Recreation - Fitness is also responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of the vision for Globalizing Recreation.

Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, health and fitness, kinesiology, physical education, or closely related field. Minimum of 1 year of experience designing or supervising group fitness and/or personal training programs. Minimum of 1 year of successfully demonstrated experience in administering/supervising fitness programs or comparable related experience (relative GA experience will be considered). Demonstrated experience within health and wellness industry and the ability to effectively train group fitness instructors and personal trainers. Proficient with Microsoft Office programs and the ability to adapt to learning in-house systems of management/logistics and robust daily operations of recreation facilities/programs. Required to work on pre-determined weekends covering events throughout a calendar year, some evenings and early mornings, and during inclement weather. At times conduct weekend staff meetings. Fiscal integrity. Demonstrated strength in ability with the following: communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills necessary to successfully manage conflicts or customer feedback to a satisfactory resolution. Developed interpersonal skills and customer service skills are a must. Team-oriented, self-directed, individual with the ability to a thrive in a fast-paced environment and to set priorities in order to perform a high volume of detailed work. Provides robust supervisory and training skills to effectively develop student employees as leaders. Lifting equipment ranging from 10lbs.- 400lbs. is required, with assistance from others or from machinery.

Demonstrated Experience:
| Successfully managing a fitness program.
| Knowledge of a wide range of facility and fitness equipment and the ability to maintain equipment inventory.
| Familiarity with inspecting facility for risk management or maintenance concerns and resolving concerns prior to activity.
| Developing and implementing policies and procedures.
| Maintaining and managing fitness software and registration and assessment protocols.
| CPR/AED Instructor Trainer


Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred: Master's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, health and fitness, kinesiology, physical education, or related field. A minimum of one (1) certification in group exercise and/or personal training as recognized by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Accepted certifications include: ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, NASM, NCCPT, or other meeting the same criteria. Knowledge of the following, supported by skills and abilities: current trends in campus recreation related to “student led” facilities grounded in student development theory; relevant equipment, policies, procedures, programs and strategies/best practices associated with administering a comprehensive program of recreational activities in a university setting; meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction through needs assessment. Possess ability and interest in serving as a mentor for students; teaching and instruction for individuals and groups and the measurement of training effectiveness. Possess strong integrity; ability to maintain accurate records and files; strong follow through; ability to make sound independent judgments and possess proven critical thinking skills. Possess American Red Cross CPR/AED certification or equivalent.
