Overview

Employment Status: Permanent / Probationary & Temporary "Non-Exempt" positions (with the possibility of the full-time positions converting to probationary).

Work Schedule: To be arranged. Shift work potentially includes nights and weekends.

Typical Activities

Under the supervision of the Director of Parking Services, and the lead directions of the Community Service Specialist Lead, the incumbent will have primary responsibility for parking related functions including parking access by the campus community and general public, information and enforcement of regulations and laws.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Patrolling campus parking lots, enforcing parking regulations and performing community service functions related to parking.
  • Specific duties include interacting daily with the diverse campus community and general public, providing general information.
  • Effectively dealing with difficult situations with tact and discretion, issuing citations for parking violations, providing testimony in court, interpreting university policies and laws of the State of California.
  • Immobilizing and impounding vehicles, providing motorist assistance with battery jumps and vehicle unlocks and using law enforcement communication devices.
  • Additional duties include providing traffic control and placing traffic control devices to facilitate traffic flow during peak hours, special events and emergencies, maintaining parking related records and equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and three to six months related experience would normally achieve these entry qualifications.
  • Entry to the first level within this classification requires high school level reading and writing abilities and possession of a valid California Driver's License.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Knowledge of and the ability to learn how to use the applicable public safety-related equipment and systems are essential.
  • Working knowledge of applicable procedures and regulations related to campus security, public safety, and parking.
  • Working knowledge of alarm and radio systems.
  • Ability to detect and respond appropriately to potentially hazardous or crime situations.
  • Ability to observe and recall details and incidents.
  • Ability to act and resolve parking and traffic problems.
  • Ability to write standard incident reports in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals including the campus community, general public and law enforcement personnel.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and confidentiality.


Supplemental Information

Applicants must successfully complete a background investigation to include criminal records check, DMV check, fingerprint check, and prior work history.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

The person holding this position may be considered a limited or general mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
