Summary:
Utah Valley University invites applicants for Dean of the College of Health & Public Service.

The Dean of the College of Health & Public Service is responsible for fostering teaching excellence, academic programs and outcomes, engaged learning, and faculty-mentored undergraduate research; developing effective student recruitment and retention strategies for the College in collaboration with relevant units at the University; administering, overseeing and facilitating the College's scholarly activities; supervising grants and sponsored programs; fundraising for the College of Health & Public Service; overseeing engagement and outreach activities and extended and community education; and developing student success pathways in the community. The College of Health & Public Service currently consists of six academic departments (Aviation Science, Criminal Justice, Emergency Services, Allied Health, Nursing, and Public & Community Health) and, The Utah Fire and Rescue Academy. The college has approximately 79 full-time staff and 82 full-time faculty.

KEY ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATION: Plans, coordinates, organizes, and manages the College and serves as an official member of the Provost and Senior Vice President's staff. Keeps abreast of and maintains state-of-the-art management and educational administration techniques and procedures, plans, maintains, and regularly evaluates department programs in accordance with the University's dual mission and institutional standards; develops resources for new department programs; assists in the development of strategic and long-range educational plans; ensures the allocation of human and fiscal resources in accordance with needs and within authorized limits; prepares final work programs and budgets for submission to the Provost and Senior Vice President.

COMMUNICATION:
Establishes and maintains open channels of communication within the College. Advocates for the needs of the College to other institutional executives. Fosters collegiality throughout the College, University, and community. Initiates and maintains cooperative relationships with local education agencies, other state and federal agencies, civic and professional organizations, and businesses, as appropriate. Prepares and reviews reports, evaluations, and other related materials for accrediting bodies and actively seeks accreditation when appropriate. Serves as College liaison to student government and promotes the general welfare of students.

TEACHING AND SCHOLARSHIP SUPPORT:
Develops resources to support teaching excellence and student success for a diverse body of students. Supports and fosters faculty-mentored student research; oversees faculty release-time to promote grant and sponsored program activities; secures and sustains resources for infrastructure maintenance and development; works with external bodies to further financial resources, including grants and fundraising; promotes career placement, and advancement.

HUMAN RESOURCES AND RETENTION, TENURE, and PROMOTION (RTP):
Authorizes the employment of classified staff and recommends the appointment of faculty and professional/administrative staff to the Provost and Senior Vice President in a spirit of diversity and inclusive excellence. Provides for a regular program of faculty and staff performance evaluations in accordance with college standards and policy; recommends for the retention, tenure, and promotion of faculty. Facilitates the professional development of faculty and staff as appropriate. Approves salary point requests for department chairs. Provides for the discipline of faculty and staff and recommends to the Provost and Senior Vice President the termination of faculty and staff in accordance with college policy and procedure.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with an earned doctorate; demonstration of achievement of tenure and advancement in rank as a faculty member in an academic department and additional years of successful administrative experience at the program/ department chair/head level or higher at the college or university level.
