Faculty - Non Tenure Track, One Year Lecturer - Chinese

Summary:
The Department of Languages and Cultures invites applications for a non-tenure-track, one-year non-renewable position as a Lecturer in Chinese.
The successful candidate must be qualified to teach all levels of Chinese courses required by the department.
Duties include, but are not limited to: Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in classroom and laboratories through lectures, discussions, conferences, demonstrations, field trips, individual consultation, internships and other appropriate settings; may supervise or assist in supervising labs or programs as assigned; establish and maintain office hours, attend department, college and university meetings.

Required Qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited institution with a PhD in education or teaching Chinese (Mandarin) as a Second Language.
Three years minimum successful experience teaching Chinese Mandarin Language at both lower and upper division college courses
• Must be able to teach Chinese courses at all levels.
• Native or near-native fluency in Chinese and English.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Skills, expertise, and experience in teaching Chinese.
• Extensive knowledge of: subject matter and content of the courses to be taught, which may include courses emphasizing both theory and practice; instructional strategies and techniques; management, motivation, evaluation of students; evaluation of instruction (peer and self); curriculum development and program assessment; effective human relations skills and communication techniques.
• Ability to apply general principles to specific conditions, follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
• Ability to teach skill- and content-based courses at all levels.
• Ability to work any schedule according to department needs.


Preferred Qualifications:
Three years’ minimum successful teaching experience at the college/university level.
Experience teaching undergraduate Chinese students in any of the following areas: advanced grammar, composition, oral proficiency, interpretation, translation, Chinese for the professions.
Evidence of superior teaching performance.


Physical Requirements:
Ability to meet class schedule, keep regular office hours, and attend required meetings.
