Arizona State University’s School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies (SHPRS) invites applications from historians of Asia, for a Lecturer position with an anticipated start date of August 2021. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible appointment made on a nine-month (August 16 – May 15) academic-year basis in the history faculty on the Tempe Campus. Subsequent annual renewal is desired, contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university.

The lecturer will offer fall and spring undergraduate courses to support both the history and Asia Studies majors. The teaching load is ordinarily 4-4. Candidates should be prepared to teach a broad Asia-wide undergraduate survey course as well as a variety of country- or theme-specific courses on Asian topics. Some online teaching is required. Specialists in East, Southeast, and South Asia are invited to apply. 

Required qualifications:

 

Candidates must have completed a PhD in a field of modern Asian history or a related field by the time appointment begins.

 

Desired qualifications:

 

  • Undergraduate teaching experience in a field of Asian history.
  • Experience in and/or openness to online teaching.
  • Complementary teaching strengths in related/comparative fields.
  • Demonstrated success meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities.
