The Records, Registration & Veterans' Affairs Office at Howard Community College is seeking Registration Assistants to work part time, hourly in the office in Columbia, MD. The RRVA office operates from June to August 2021 Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5 pm. Starting late August and into the Fall semester, office hours will extend Monday through Thursday 8:30 am to 7:30 pm and Friday 8:30 am to 5 pm. Candidates are expected to work one evening per week and occasional weekends/special events as needed.

This position provides complete student registration services including but not limited to in-person registrations, researching and resolving registration and billing problems, scanning of student records, answering phone and email inquiries, clerical tasks, and assisting students with online registration and other records functions. Interprets and communicates general college and Records, Registration, and Veterans' Affairs policies and procedures for the college community. Maintains privacy of student record information in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act [FERPA]. Provides excellent customer service for all students, staff, faculty, and visitors.

Requirements:

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in an extremely fast-paced, busy office
  • Customer service experience
  • Excellent keyboarding skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Attention to detail and ability to resolve routine problems with minimal supervision
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and security of student records information in compliance with laws and HCC policies
  • Ability to work in a team environment and a diverse campus community

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous data entry experience
  • Experience using a student information system, particularly Ellucian Colleague
  • Experience using a document imaging system
  • College coursework or previous experience working in higher education

Working Conditions

Fast-paced, sometimes high stress customer service environment. Considerable interaction with the public. Flexibility required. Business casual work attire. Equipment Used: personal computer, telephone, scanners, printers and copiers, fax, document validator, and other office equipment as needed. Regular in-person attendance is a requirement of this position.


Additional Information:

Hours Per Week: 15-20 hours per week
Work Schedule: Normal office hours Monday - Thursday 8:30am-7:30pm, Friday 8:30am-5pm. Must work minimum one evening per week, two (2) Saturdays per year, Commencement day, and Graduate Get Together event.
Compensation: $15/per hour
Grade: Hourly/Temporary
