The Asian American Center (AAC) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an associate director to build the academic and community engagement mission of this growing Center. The AAC is a university-wide center reporting to the Office of the Provost, founded in 2019. Its mission is to cultivate a critical understanding of Asian American peoples, cultures, and histories. The position is classified as EHRA non-faculty and reports to the director of the Center.

The associate director assists the director with the establishment and fulfillment of the mission, goals and day-to-day operation of the Center and is responsible for all facets of the Center in the absence of the director. The associate director works closely with the director and staff colleagues to carry out the principal functions of the Center and these essential responsibilities: 1) administration, 2) evaluation and assessment, 3) academic, campus, and community engagement, and 4) new and current partnership development.

We seek a collaboration-oriented candidate with outstanding skills in administration, event planning and execution, written and oral communication, and a documented commitment to and experience in Asian American studies/arts and/or working with Asian American students and communities. Knowledge of North Carolina communities/history and grant experience desirable. Occasional events requiring this position’s supervision will take place on evenings or weekends.

Doctorate or other terminal degree in a related field is required.
