Job Summary: The Mental Health Counselor is responsible for providing a wide range of direct mental health services to all enrolled students including:
  • Assesses each student who presents for services.
  • Collaborates with the student to determine the best course of treatment and arranges appropriate follow-up which may include: treating the student via individual and/or group counseling at the Counseling Center, referring the student to another office on campus, or referring the student to a local behavioral health agency or other appropriate community resource.
  • Provides consultation and training to various campus constituencies; engage with campus partners as a liaison to, and collaborate with, student services and educational departments; and is actively involved in helping manage crisis situations. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work or closely related field by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university.
  • NYS licensed or eligible for NYS licensure or eligible for a limited permit to practice mental health counseling.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse environment with a variety of constituents.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working on a college campus with diverse populations.
  • Experience working in a mental health setting.
  • Previous involvement with grant funded projects (i.e. assisted with writing and/or implementing grants).
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating psycho-educational workshops and/or trainings.
    Work Schedule: Salary, Benefits, and Appointment: $43,000 May be benefits eligible; more information at Careers@Brockport. This is a fulltime 10 month position.
