Position Summary:*
The Human Rights Center (HRC) creates positive change through education, dialogue and research for and about advocacy. As part of a University for the common good, we are committed to bridging the gap between theory and practice in order to advance human rights and sustainable development locally, nationally and around the world.
Projects supported by the Human Rights Center integrate interdisciplinary academic and experiential learning with human rights and rights-based research and advocacy outcomes. These multifaceted projects are undertaken with partner organizations to enable students to gain and apply learning to human rights and development practice at home and abroad. The Center creates an enabling environment for faculty, students and partners to engage in transdisciplinary research for and about human rights advocacy and education. A range of targeted fellowships, scholarships and affiliations provide opportunities for deepening applied knowledge, experience and evidence in the field of human rights and rights-based development across the University. Key initiatives of the Center aim to bridge the gap between theory and practice, between scholars and practitioners. By drawing scholars, practitioners, and top notch organizations to the University, the Center catalyzes critical reflection and innovation in the field of human rights, and celebrates institutions and individuals who have significantly contributed to combating injustice.
The position would support all facets of HRC partnerships, outreach and engagement, reporting to the Executive Director and working collaboratively with faculty, staff and graduate and undergraduate students of the Center. It is considered a core staff member of the HRC and will be expected to contribute their creativity and knowledge in support of HRC programs and activities. The position contributes to the strategic direction of the HRC, maintaining its core partnerships and supports the Executive Director in all outreach and communications to donors, stakeholders, students, partners and the Executive Advisory Committee. This position may require working unconventional hours during HRC events or activities.
