Center
The Division of Student Life at the University of
Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for the Director position
for the Student Counseling Center (SCC). This is an exempt,
12-month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position.

The Division of Student Life:
The Division of Student Life is comprised of
approximately 400 staff members that serve our students through 19
departments and functions. Staff are actively engaged in the
lives of our students, living and learning with them in our
residence halls, student union, and other campus
environments. The Division seeks candidates willing to
engage, challenge, and support our students through intentional
programs and services. In addition, we seek colleagues that
are committed to teamwork and have a palpable passion for working
with and serving all students.
The Department:
Student Counseling Center is the university’s primary
facility for personal counseling, psychotherapy, and mental health
outreach and consultation services. Their mission is to
promote the psychological, educational, and social well-being of
the students of the University of Tennessee and to help prepare
them to be productive members of a global society. The
director must be champion of diversity, equity and inclusion and
lead with a spirit of humanity, generosity, and empathy in order to
serve the diverse needs of our student population, the clinic
practitioners, and the staff.
The Position:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for
Student Life, the primary duties of the Director for the Student
Counseling Center are as follows:
• Provide executive direction for the Student
Counseling Center
• Supervise and evaluate staff members including an
associate director, assistant director, staff psychologists, staff
psychotherapist(s), psychiatrist(s), psychiatric nurse
practitioner(s), staff therapists, clinical case manager(s),
doctoral intern clinicians, graduate assistants, and administrative
support staff.
• Provide direct clinical services including triage
screening and assessments, risk assessment and crisis
management
• Supervise psychology trainees including individual
supervision, review of video and clinical notes, and general
quality assurance of clinical work
Develop, manage, and monitor budget
• Evaluate departmental effectiveness and efficiency
through assessment efforts
• Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships
within the campus and Knoxville communities
• Participate as an active staff member of the
Division of Student Life and perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Education:
• Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical
Psychology from APA-accredited program
• Completion of internship at APA-accredited
program
• Tennessee license eligibility as a psychologist and
health services provider
Experience:
• Five (5) years of post-graduate experience in
student counseling or other mental health facility
• Three (3) years of experience working in a
supervisory and/or management position
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and
organizational skills
• Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with all
constituents (students, faculty, administration, University staff
and other members of the UT and surrounding community)
• Demonstrated presentation skills (oral and
written)
• Demonstrated ability to positively and effectively
lead and facilitate campus and community partnerships
• Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate multiple
projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
• Previous experience working with psychiatric
medication services
• Experience working with electronic health record
systems
Knowledge, Skills &
Abilities:
• Ability to develop strategic plan and implement
assessment strategies and reports
• Knowledge of basic threat assessment protocols
Salary:
• Commensurate with experience and other
qualifications.
