Term Assistant Professor of Medical Education
WWAMI is a collaborative medical school among universities in five northwestern states, Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho and the University of Washington School of Medicine. The curriculum at each site has been standardized with the University of Washington School of Medicine curriculum which integrates the basic and clinical sciences, and includes training in clinical care at an early time in medical education. Alaska WWAMI provides Alaskans access to a high quality regional medical school.
The University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) places emphasis on the early development of strong clinical skills mentoring and student professional development. This is achieved through the "colleges." This 4-year mentorship program assigns a small group of students to a mentor for all of their years in medical school. The mentor teaches bedside clinical skills in the first 15 months, provides ongoing support, advice and mentoring for the student’s remaining time in medical school.
We are seeking a Head of Colleges for Alaska’s Denali College to lead this group of mentors. This faculty would teach classroom and simulation based workshops, small group communication skills and reflections and assist in the organization and preparation for the Foundation of Clinical Medicine as the co-lead for this block.
