The Associate Vice Chancellor/ Director of Athletics (AD) reports to the Chancellor of the University and is responsible for coordinating and managing all intercollegiate athletic functions. This position serves on the senior leadership team and is charged with the oversight and growth of a competitive intercollegiate athletic program within an academic environment that emphasizes academic success, retention, and graduation of all students. The AD also monitors and verifies university compliance with all NCAA requirements and the Great American Conference rules. The position is available July 1, 2021.

Responsibilities: The Director of Athletics is responsible for the development, management, coordination and supervision of a competitive intercollegiate athletics program that demonstrates a commitment to diversity at all levels. The position will also be responsible for building strong alumni and community support for the UAM Athletic programs.

The Associate Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics will:

  • provide visionary leadership, strategic planning and policy development for the athletics program and that aligns with the mission and vison of the university;
  • administer the overall athletic budget;
  • recruit, supervise and professionally develop the athletic staff;
  • provide leadership for their recruitment, retention, progression, graduation, and overall well-being of student athletes;
  • develop plans, policies, procedures and programs that are in compliance with the University, the Great American Conference, the NCAA rules and regulations, applicable State and Federal laws, and that promote the Department and the University’s high standard of academic excellence and the general welfare of student athletes;
  • collaborate with all members of the university community to ensure student success and retention;
  • work effectively and collaboratively with internal and external constituents to promote participation in athletic events;
  • plan events and other activities to secure external revenues and financial support for the athletic department;
  • perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:  Master’s degree is required. Experience and knowledge of current practices in the delivery of athletics program at a postsecondary institution; student athletics issues; supervision techniques; NCAA Division II rules and procedures; and success in fundraising and solicitation of gifts. Must have the ability to integrate multiple activities and programs around the goals of the athletic department and the university; develop and provide athletic services to meet the needs of a diverse student population, and to promote the university’s student success and retention initiatives. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations, at least two years’ experience in sports administration or head coaching. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Salary: Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
