Job Summary:

The Coordinator in the Office of the Student Experience is responsible for supporting the vision, initiatives, programs, and daily operations of the Office of the Student Experience.  The Coordinator will serve as the lead within the team for parent and family programs designed to support student success through collaboration with parents and families throughout each phase of their student's SMU experience. The Office of the Student Experience works together as a team to support the office programs and initiatives.  Every member of the team is assigned responsibility for aspects of each functional area within the office including orientation, transitions, leadership, parent and family programs, and special population support.

 

Essential Functions:

Serves as the parents/families lead within the team.  Contact for families to receive information/guidance and express concerns so they can appropriately support their student throughout the SMU experience.  Establish/manage systems to collect and track parent/family questions/concerns. Produce communications and programs designed to equip families with skills and resources to assist their student.

 

Support the vision and programs of the Office of the Student Experience including support of orientation and transitions programs, leadership programs, parent and family programs, and support of special student populations (Graduate, International, and Transfer students).  Serve on relevant divisional and institution committees.

 

Coordinate the First 5 program in both August and January to specifically support new students and welcome back returning students. Ensure the program is integrated into all orientation programs. Coordinate support from the Office of the Student Experience student workers to ensure First 5 is student-directed and well-executed.

 

Manage the recruitment, selection, supervision, and training of the Office of the Student Experience student workers and coordinate the delegation of duties and program support.  Support these student leaders with specific responsibility for the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society and associated officers.

 

Support the implementation and realization of the goals and learning domains in the Student Affairs strategic plan.  Complete other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree is required.  Field of study for degree in Higher Education Administration or related field, such as Student Personnel or Counseling, is preferred.

 

Experience working with parents and understanding/knowledge of pertinent issues regarding parental involvement in higher education, is required.

 

Experience working with event programming is required.

 

Experience managing data and systems is required.

 

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other programs) is required.

 

Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and web editing software such as Sitecore, is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of constituencies.

 

Must have excellent interpersonal skills and networking skills, and a professional demeanor that thrives in an intense, deadline-driven environment. 

 

Must have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

 

Candidate must have well developed project management skills including the ability to handle multiple projects.

 

Must have excellent customer service orientation.

 

Candidate must have strong analytical and problem solving skills.

 

Must be strongly focused on details including appropriate handling of procurement card and purchasing responsibilities.

 

Candidate must be willing and able to work specified evenings and weekends in order to support the Office of the Student Experience programs.
