Job Description:

Dean College's School of Liberal Arts is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach Human Biology lab during the fall semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.

We are seeking an 1-2 adjunct instructors for BIO180: Human Biology lab. BIO-180 is a 4-credit class with lecture and lab meeting separately during the week. The adjunct pay rate is $2134/lab section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. Lab instructor work under the direction of the lecture faculty member. The curriculum for the course has already be designed by the biology faculty.

The course description is as follows: Students will explore the basic science of human biology. Students will have the opportunity to understand how the human body responds to external influences of diet, physical activity, infectious pathogens, alcohol, drugs and stress through the reading and evaluation of basic research studies. Laboratory activities will augment lecture topics and will culminate in the completion of a capstone project involving the design, implementation, and evaluation of a personal fitness program.

There are 4 lab sections available; instructors will be considered for 1-2 sections.

Requirements:

• Masters Degree in Biology, or related discipline, required;
• PhD in Biology, or related discipline, preferred;
• Experience teaching first and second year undergraduates, preferred;
• Strong computer skills such as the ability to utilize digital tools to communicate and engage with students, required;
• Experience with Canvas, our learning management system, preferred;
• Willingness to learn additional classroom media tools as necessary, required;
• Expertise in learner-centered teaching, preferred;
• Experience using technology and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy preferred;
• Experience working with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, preferred.
