Job Description:

Dean College's School of Liberal Arts is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach the  Anatomy Essentials lab during the fall semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.

We are seeking an adjunct instructor for BIO175: Anatomy Essentials lab. BIO175 is a 4-credit class with lecture and lab meeting separately during the week. The adjunct pay rate is $2134/lab section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. Lab instructor work under the direction of the lecture faculty member. The curriculum for the course has already be designed by the biology faculty.

The course description is as follows: A one-semester study of the structure and function of the human body with emphasis on the integumentary, musculoskeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory and digestive systems. Discussions will emphasize the correlations between the optimal functioning of these systems and physical performance. This course is required for Dance and Coaching majors and recommended for students interested in the study of anatomy and physiology.

There are 4 lab sections available; instructors will be considered for 1-2 sections.

  • Thursday, 8:00AM - 9:50AM
  • Friday, 10:10AM - 12:00PM
  • Wednesday, 10:10AM - 12:00PM
  • Friday, 12:20PM - 02:10PM

Requirements:

  • Masters Degree in Biology, or related discipline, required;
  • PhD in Biology, or related discipline, preferred;
  • Experience teaching first and second year undergraduates, preferred;
  • Experience teaching undergraduate students in dance, preferred;
  • Strong computer skills such as the ability to utilize digital tools to communicate and engage with students, required;
  • Experience with Canvas, our learning management system, preferred;
  • Willingness to learn additional classroom media tools as necessary, required;
  • Expertise in learner-centered teaching, preferred;
  • Experience using technology and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy preferred;
  • Experience working with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, preferred.
