Job Description:

Dean College's School of Liberal Arts is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach Science of TV Crime Scene Investigations during the fall semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.

We are seeking 2 adjunct instructors to teach BIO-165: Science of TV Crime Scene Investigation. BIO-165 is a 3-credit class that meets for 2.5 hours/week.  The adjunct pay rate is $3200/section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The Biology program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi. All faculty will be expected to make active use of the learning management system at least at a minimum level established by the college.

The course description is as follows: Can you really catch a criminal in 24 hours? This course will challenge the methods and assumptions presented in crime and hospital shows from an objective and systematic scientific perspective. In order to form an educated opinion on the validity of the science presented in these shows, students must build a solid foundation in medical biology and forensics. Lab experiments will provide students with hands-on experience using forensic techniques. This is designed as a lab-based course recommended for Criminal Justice, Communications, and Science majors.

There are three BIO-165 sections available; applicants will be considered for 1 or 2 sections. These sections are scheduled to meet Monday/Wednesday/Friday, from 1:25-2:15pm or 2:30-3:20 pm.

Requirements:

• Masters Degree in Biology, or related discipline, required;
• PhD in Biology, or related discipline, preferred;
• Experience teaching first and second year undergraduates, preferred;
• Experience teaching undergraduate students online, preferred;
• Strong computer skills such as the ability to utilize digital tools to communicate and engage with students, required;
• Experience with Canvas, our learning management system, preferred;
• Willingness to learn additional classroom media tools as necessary, required;
• Expertise in learner-centered teaching, preferred;
• Experience using technology and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy preferred;
• Experience working with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, preferred.
