Visiting Assistant Professors / Teaching Postdoctoral Fellows

Department of Chemistry, University of Cincinnati

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for several Visiting Assistant Professors / Teaching Postdoctoral Fellows (TPF). The TPF will conduct research in association with faculty research groups in areas of theoretical/computational and experimental chemistry, based on their research interest. Half of the TPF time will be devoted to teaching and developing undergraduate chemistry classes, directing laboratory classes and mentoring undergraduate students, and half to conducting research. These positions are well-suited for scientists who wish to prepare for a career of teaching at a primarily undergraduate institution that emphasizes excellence in both teaching and research. Preference will be given to candidates who have prior teaching experience in first-year chemistry and/or associated lab courses.

For postdocs interested in computational research an ideal candidate would have a PhD in computational chemistry/biophysics or a related discipline. We expect a solid chemical and/or biophysical background, a good grasp of statistics, and data analysis techniques. In addition, experience with quantum chemistry and ab initio quantum simulation methods will be beneficial. Experience with programming and scripting languages and familiarity with various molecular modeling packages (NAMD, Gromacs, Charmm, CPMD, CP2K, NWChem etc.) and with the UNIX/Linux operating system will be a significant advantage.

For postdocs interested in experimental research an ideal candidate would have a PhD in any subdiscipline of chemistry with significant laboratory experience. We expect a solid chemical background and skill in experimental chemistry that is complementary to existing areas of strength within the department. Research areas of particular interest include electrocatalysis, electrochemical energy storage, organic synthesis, polymer chemistry or drug discovery using structural, biochemical, and high-throughput screening approaches, however we will consider creative candidates who show promise in any subdiscipline.

Overall Qualifications

PhD required or all requirements for the PhD must be completed by the appointment date. The University of Cincinnati teaching fellows participate extensively in the intellectual life of the department including opportunities to attend seminars and workshops, and present research results. Salary is competitive. Highly effective communication skills, including listening, writing, and speaking are desired.

Application Process

The Application Process begins by completing our online application at https://jobs.uc.edu (requisition #63260).  Applicants must also include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, statement of research interests, and a one-page diversity statement on how diversity has influenced your teaching, scholarship or mentorship. Direct any questions to the Search Committee, Department of Chemistry at chemsearch@ucmail.uc.edu.

The University of Cincinnati is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer with a strong commitment to diversity.  We actively seek a broad spectrum of candidates including women, people of color, people with disabilities and veterans.
