Sarah Lawrence College invites applications for a guest faculty position in writing and research for documentary film for the Fall of 2021. The candidate will teach one semester-long seminar course in producing the documentary film to include but not be limited to: fundraising and development, treatment writing, research and building the non-fiction narrative. We seek an experienced documentary filmmaker whose teaching will explore diverse perspectives, methodologies, and geographies in both the content and style of non-fiction film work.

Please note that Sarah Lawrence College teaching is unique: seminar courses (capped at 17 students) contain a weekly seminar and bi-weekly “individual conferences” where faculty coach students in a semester-long independent research or writing project parallel to the work of the class. The guest will have leeway in designing the structure and content of the class. This is a non-film production class scheduled to meet Fridays from 11am-2pm on the Sarah Lawrence College campus in Bronxville, NY.

Application materials must include: cover letter, curriculum vitae, filmography, two letters of recommendation, one sample syllabi, and a sample course proposal. Supplementary materials are welcome. We are open to a consideration of film work that embraces all subgenres of documentary filmmaking.

In your cover letter, please include a statement concerning how your teaching considers diversity, equity, and inclusion.
