General Summary/Purpose

Under the supervision of a laboratory supervisor in Oncology, the candidate is responsible for performing routine analyses and tests on animal or human fluids and/or tissue or cultured cell lines.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Johns Hopkins University is seeking a research technologist to perform correlative analyses at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC) as part of the cancer immunology group. This position will utilize high-parameter mass cytometry tools to understand changes in the immune system in the context of cancer immunology studies for both clinical and mouse model studies.

Work requires basic use of scientific methods, procedures and techniques gained through previous training and experience. The candidate will need to uses basic understanding of theory behind experiments and applies basic analytical skills to implement assigned projects, and to identify and trouble-shoot situations needing special attention.

It is expected that the candidate will be trained with the skills needed to follow established procedures or protocols. Primary responsibilities will include: processing and staining samples for immune profiling and operation of mass cytometry machines for data acquisition in coordination with the manager of the Mass Cytometry Facility at SKCCC. The position will also monitors inventory levels, orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, counts orders upon receipt.

Minimum Qualifications

Current BS/BA, or equivalent, or anticipated BS/BA by Summer of 2021 in biological sciences, chemistry, or related field required.

Preferred Qualifications

Six months of laboratory experience; a significant independent research project, not related to normal course requirements preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Mastery of basic laboratory techniques and familiarity with cytometry techniques. Specific training necessary for the position will be provided.

Additional Information:

Candidates who are able to commit a minimum of 2-3 years to this role will be highly favored.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
