General Summary/Purpose

This position is responsible for management, oversight and coordination of research grants and projects led by Drs. Ariel Green and Stephanie Nothelle, Assistant Professors of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine. Given the growing population of older adults with dementia, novel interventions are needed to improve the quality and safety of care and patient-centered outcomes. Optimizing medication use throughdeprescribing(the process of reducing or stopping the use of potentially inappropriate medications or medications unlikely to be beneficial) and providing non-medical support through case management services can improve outcomes for patients with dementia and multiple chronic conditions (MCC).

This position will primarily be working with Ariel Green, MD, MPH, PhD on research projects in the areas of geriatrics health services research and deprescribing and Stephanie Nothelle, MD on research projects in the areas of geriatrics health services research and population health management.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for management of various projects, working closely with investigators and staff. The position will set goals and timelines in collaboration with investigators, and ensure timely accomplishment of project tasks and goals with high quality. The position is responsible for ensuring program quality, and adherence to expected processes and project goals and timelines.

The position also organizes and ensures effective interaction with external partners, including study participants, advisory boards, funding agencies/organizations, the institutional review board, and other monitory groups as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversee overall research program implementation, data collection, timelines, goals and conduct of related tasks
  • Oversee project management, including drafting study operations manuals, note taking during meetings, developing timelines and to-do lists and planning next steps
  • Engage in culturally-proficient community outreach, data collection, data analysis, and dissemination
  • Oversee record management for research programs and assist with managing and performing data collection activities, which may include developing REDCap databases, conducting interviews, performing direct observations, and facilitating focus groups
  • Help foster collaboration and joint problem identification and problem solving with research collaborators and partner(s)
  • Conduct meetings and monitor progression toward goals
  • Triage issues that require input of investigators and other stakeholders to ensure efficient resolution of issues
  • Identify unmet needs and coordinate resources (human, social, financial, etc.) to meet unmet needs
  • Prepare, submit and track protocols, amendments, and related documents relevant to appropriate Institutional Review Boards, DSMB, and other oversight groups
  • Establish appropriate flow of information and materials between meetings and for various study teams; ensure setting of investigator meetings and communications across all participants
  • Ensure timely accomplishment of project tasks and goals with high quality
  • Provide oversight of budget expenditures and tracking of project funds together with the Principal Investigator, and budget analyst
  • Support investigators in writing grant submissions, annual reports, abstract submissions, and other reports as required
  • Coordinate yearly progress reports for funding organizations
  • Assist with qualitative research data analysis including conducting interviews, submitting recordings for transcription, thematically coding transcripts, maintaining a code book
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related discipline.

Three (3) years related experience.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience facilitating and conducting community outreach activities, home visits, interviews, and focus groups. Experience with qualitative data analysis. Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) in related discipline.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Must adhere to guidelines regarding honest reporting of sensitive and confidential research and participant information; Understands the importance/impact of data integrity in terms of participants, study results, costs, quality of service and scientific research in general; Regular contact with researchers and collaborators requires the use of good judgment, tact and sensitivity; Excellent organizational and time management skills required; Excellent interpersonal skills; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Excellent attention to detail; Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities; Proficiency in the use of standard software applications, databases, spreadsheets and word processing required.

Physical requirements for the job:

Sitting in normal seated position for extended periods of time. Ability to use a keyboard and move about. Ability to see and hear within normal parameters.

Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
