Director for Translational Pathology

The Department of Pathology and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Maryland School of Medicine are seeking a qualified M.D. to serve as the Director for Translational Pathology, to expand the research activities in key areas such as cancer and developing molecular diagnostics for oncology.

The applicant should have evidence of scholarly achievement, to include a history of funded research, current research funding, and have experience in developing and translating their discoveries into novel clinical applications in oncology testing. The applicant will be expected to provide clinical support and consultation as needed, either in clinical and/or anatomic pathology, in the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Laboratories of Pathology and be active in the School of Medicine’s teaching programs. Academic appointment and salary will be commensurate with experience. Candidates must be board certified/eligible in Molecular Pathology and eligible for an unrestricted license in the State of Maryland.

In FY20, the School of Medicine was ranked 7th among public medical schools and 22nd among all public and private medical schools nationwide in total research funding, according to the Association for American Medical Colleges. Our scientists and clinicians received over $563 million in grants and contracts in FY20. The University of Maryland Medical Center has 806 licensed acute care beds, 239 intensive care beds, and performed over 18,000 surgeries in FY20. There is an active emergency department which had over 58,000 visits in FY20.
