Associate Teaching Professor of Architecture

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Architecture in the College of Design at Iowa State University (ISU) is seeking applicants to join the Faculty in the role of a non-tenure-eligible Associate Teaching Professor. The duties will be teaching both graduate and undergraduate students science and technology in all three primary areas of building technology: structures, materials and assemblies, and building performance with an emphasis on sustainable architecture. The duties will also include teaching design studio at both the foundations and advanced levels. The position is a full-time with no less than a five-year appointment. There is one position available for this posting.

Design faculty members are educators who support the comprehensive mix of accredited and nationally ranked degree programs within the College of Design. Our faculty help to educate our students to become successful designers, planners, artists, and scholars who enhance human experience and improve the natural, social, and built environments.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master of Architecture (MArch)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching design studio and building technology classes in an accredited architecture program at the university level.        
  • Professional practice experience in architecture.

Department/Program & College Description:

The Department of Architecture is home to over 400 students and approximately 36 faculty offering two accredited degrees, a Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture, and a post-professional research degree: Master of Science in Architecture. The Department is housed within the College of Design alongside the Departments of Landscape Architecture, Community and Regional Planning, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, and Arts & Visual Culture, making it one of the most comprehensive design colleges in the country.
