Position Summary:

This position will work as part of a small research team in the Coon laboratory. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to use cryo-electron microscopy in the analysis of proteins derived from mass spectrometry. The candidate will be able to identify research problems, design research methodologies, perform research, and prepare the results for presentation to professional organizations and for scholarly publications.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Ph.D. in chemistry, biomolecular chemistry or related field is required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required:
- At least 5 years of post-Ph.D. experience in biological research using cryo-TEM.
- Proven ability to integrate mass spectrometry (MS) technology with cryo-TEM grid/sample preparation
- Experience on the design and evaluation of experiments conducted for Mass Spec/ TEM technological coupling
- The ability to visualize experimental consequences and pre-plan for outcomes
- Ability to conduct TEM instrument maintenance and troubleshooting

Preferred:
- Experience creating standard user protocols for cryo-EM instrumentation
- Experience training new users in cryo-EM sample preparation, instrument operation, and data processing
- Experience planning for funding opportunities and ability to contribute to written documents including project reports, manuscripts, and funding proposals
