Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship ( CIE ) houses UNCW’s Small Business and Technology Development Center ( SBTDC ), Office of Innovation and Commercialization ( OIC ), and Seahawk Innovation. The CIE serves as an accelerator with space and services for academic and entrepreneurial pursuits where start-ups, small businesses, new ideas and ventures from faculty, staff and students grow. This primary function also includes community engagement for economic development and entrepreneurship through collaborations with community businesses, organizations, and government.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship ( CIE ) Program Manager develops, executes, and assesses programs practices, creates and implements program goals and objectives, including those in transition from old to new; implements quality monitoring and performance improvement issues for CIE programs and events; reviews and approves marketing information and written reports about CIE programs and events; ensures program policies, procedures, rules and regulations are interpreted correctly; supervises and mentors student employees and interns assigned to specific program support; works with university and external communities using knowledge and experience in higher education, economic development, customer service, programming event planning, and management; develops contacts and relationships with the local government, the business community, economic development entities, faculty, staff, and students in achieving program goals; program budget oversight; collaborates with the CIE director and various campus organizations, businesses, government agencies and investors to leverage and nurture the entrepreneurship in Wilmington and Southeastern North Carolina. Represents the CIE on behalf of the Director at meetings and events as needed. Evaluates programs to assess their value for participants.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
Minimum of three years in higher education and/or public administration (or equivalent work experience) with an understanding of community engagement, technology, startups, entrepreneurship, and venture funding is preferred
Prior entrepreneurial experience and/or knowledge of the region’s business and entrepreneurial environment are highly desirable
