Position Function
Manage the operations of the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics and Humanities nurse’s office; provide and coordinate health care services for students; assist students to assume responsibility for their own health; increase the students, parents, and faculty’s general knowledge of health and medication issue, be on-call 24/7 when students are in residence.
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
Minimum Experience
One year of experience as a nurse.
Minimum Other
Registered Nurse license. 24/7 availability when students are in residence.
Authorization to work in the US
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Education
Preferred Experience
Experience as a nurse in a school setting; experience as a nurse in a residential school setting.
Preferred Other
Pre-Employment Screening
Requires successful completion of a background check and education verification.

Perform routine and emergency health care for students; includes student assessment, referral and follow up.

Manage the operations of the nurse’s office; includes but not limited to: maintain office calendar; schedule student appointments; coordinate transportation; sick trays; medication compliance; appropriate student care and education; staff education and appropriate parent/guardian and staff education.

Maintain a medical file on each Indiana Academy student from enrollment to graduation; ensure that all state and school requirements are met; communicate with parents to ensure required information is obtained.

Dispense and document all prescription and non-prescription medication to students based on parent/guardian and physician consents and in compliance with the Indiana Academy Medication Policy; develop a medication administration log to be used by the Student Life staff to ensure accurate medication schedules and counts.

Train Student Life staff on pertinent health issues/procedures; communicate with SLCs, faculty, parents, pharmacies, BSU quick clinic, and other doctors/specialists about student care and be available 24/7 day (on-call) to answer questions and provide advice in urgent/emergency situations.

Research, advise, coordinate, and facilitate action taken on matters related to student health and any associated state and/or federal mandate/guidelines. Coordinate and facilitate state required screenings; compile and provide the required screening forms to the Department of Education.

In conjunction with the Academy’s IEP /504 coordinator and parents, develop student Individual Education/Health Plans ( IEP / IHP ).
Serve on Student Services Committee, Study-Team, and/or Transition (back to residence) meetings for students of concern.

Supervise Indiana Academy Nurse. Assign and review work, orient and train staff, and make recommendations in all areas related to supervision, including but not limited to, interviewing and selection, compensation, performance appraisal, training, discipline and career development.
