The Student Life Office Fellow works collaboratively to create a lively, diverse, and engaging social experience for students at Concord Academy. This position is responsible for event programming from concept to execution. This individual will create space and opportunities for student leaders to take their ideas from brainstorming sessions to realization, taking into account student need and mission driven initiatives, through social and educational events and programming. To fully embrace all aspects of the school community and be immersed in academics and student life, this role will teach one section of our 9th grade Health & Wellness course and also be a campus resident (or affiliate house faculty). The ideal candidate will possess a passion for working with adolescents, using creativity, initiative, nimbleness, project management, and follow through, while working collaboratively with members of the Student Life Office, including the Director of Residential Life and Dean of Students. We seek individuals who thrive in balancing multiple initiatives simultaneously, adapt to change easily, can help make connections across the school, are comfortable with event promotion and social media marketing, and have a desire to facilitate diverse student interests. Due to the nature of this role, the Student Life Office Fellow is required to work some non-traditional and weekend hours. This is a full-time academic year position. This role reports to the Dean of Students. This fellowship is a two-year opportunity to gain experience for individuals seeking to work in a variety of student life roles.

Responsibilities
  • Create, plan, organize and implement weekend programming activities, events and outings for students in partnership with key members of the Student Life Office.
  • Teach one section of 9th Grade Seminar in Health & Wellness in collaboration with the Health and Wellness team.
  • As a part of the Student Life team, sign students in and out of the school following CA’s protocols and permissions granted to each student.
  • Manage weekend student activities budget under the direction of the Dean of Students.
  • Maintain and regularly publish an up to date calendar of activities and events that is made readily available to all constituencies.
  • Ensure all the required staff and materials are available for all activities:
    • Reserve room(s) or space(s) necessary for the event.
      • Coordinate equipment needs (ex. AV, etc.).
      • Coordinate room set up, cleaning and service needs.
    • Manage promotional materials and distribute in advance of the programs.
    • Manage faculty & staff duty points to schedule chaperones/coverage for weekend programming.
    • Oversee the support staff and volunteers working activities and events as needed.
      • Provide training to support staff and volunteers as needed.
    • Maintain inventory and order materials and supplies needed for events.
  • Coordinate and oversee student school trips including but not limited to: budget, payments, extensive travel arrangements, and chaperones.
  • Oversee aspects of yearbook creation pertaining to year contract, parent communications, and financials.
  • Work with student leaders who serve as house managers to order and divide dorm food on a monthly basis.
  • Provide office support such as mailings, school mail sorting coverage, filing, etc. as needed.
  • In partnership with the Dean of Students and the Director of Community and Equity, plan and implement new student orientation. This includes the training and oversight of student Orientation Leaders (OLTs).
  • Maintain accurate records of all student activities events and activities (including event proposals, budgets, contacts, contracts, media/publicity, and evaluations).
  • Perform all other duties, as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Any professional experience in an academic environment is a plus.
  • Boarding experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Google Suite (particularly Google Calendar), and MS Office.
  • Knowledge of Trumba or other web-based calendar management software and PowerSchool or other student information systems preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong organizational and interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Project/event management experience preferred.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Social media proficiency to promote events.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and serve as a positive role model for students and the community.
  • Must pass background checks.
  • Mental and physical demands, and environmental factors: Physical ability to lift 75 pounds on an occasional basis. Frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, balancing, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and inside depending on the weather. Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions.
