CMC is a comprehensive, public, open-access dual-mission institution offering 136 academic programs ranging from specialized certificates to associate and bachelor’s degrees, a wide range of online, non-credit and lifelong learning courses, as well as extensive concurrent enrollment opportunities in close partnership with neighboring school districts.
Over 15,000 students attend CMC annually, and 40% of degree-seeking students earn a certificate or degree every year. The college’s Latinx enrollment has doubled in six years to 27%, making CMC eligible for federal Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) status. CMC courses are highly personal and many are highly experiential by design, each with a maximum registration of 25 students.
Colorado Mountain College campuses are located in Aspen, Carbondale, Breckenridge, Dillon, Steamboat Springs, Glenwood Springs, Glenwood Springs-Spring Valley, Leadville, Rifle, the Vail Valley, and Salida. Of these locations, three are residential—Spring Valley, Leadville, and Steamboat Springs — and students in Breckenridge have access to college-owned off-campus housing. CMC campuses are close-knit communities, on average serving between 1,000 – 2,000 students.
The majority of the college’s financial support comes from local property taxes, not tuition or state revenues. Consequently, CMC is uniquely positioned to be entrepreneurial, nimble, mission-focused, and responsive to community and workforce needs. The college’s Central Services administrative office, which provides administrative support to all campus locations, is located in historic downtown Glenwood Springs, the town from which CMC originally launched in 1965.

The college Academic Advisor II reports to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, utilizing exceptional interpersonal skills and in-depth knowledge of the college catalog, provides one-on-one student advising, as well as coordinating various tasks in support of campus level student services. The advisor provides administrative counseling and guidance in interpreting the College’s academic policies and guidelines. The Academic Advisor II assists with on-and off-campus advising, retention and recruitment activities as well as assistance with tracking and reporting activities. Assists students with problem-solving and goal identification; analyzes situations and determines required actions. Communicates professionally and confidentially with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and community partners; keeps detailed and accurate manual and/or electronic records; works as a cooperative and contributing member of a team. Assists with promoting the vision and mission of Colorado Mountain College.
The Academic Advisor II provides academic, transfer and career advising; registration and financial aid assistance; and general guidance for students. In addition to providing excellent service to individuals, the Academic Advisor II works as a member of the campus team, responding to evolving demographic, technological and community needs, and providing leadership and support in the development of new and enhanced student success programs. Performs other duties as assigned.
The Academic Advisor II will possibly serve in the professional staff on-call rotation throughout the year to respond to emergencies and policy violations in the residence hall. Professional staff on-call must be available to take calls and come to campus quickly for the entirety of their on-call duration.

Pre-Requisites for the Position (Qualifications Standards)
Education and experience sufficient to meet the rigors of the position. Examples may include a Bachelor’s Degree and three years of related experience with a diverse student and adult population; or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position.
High School and Post-Secondary experience essential. Master’s Degree preferred.
Special skills or abilities: Knowledge of higher education degree requirements, and current practices and technology utilized in student services. Ability to provide thoughtful academic, transfer and career advising; interpret and analyze placement data and aptitude assessments. Exhibit exceptional verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Effectively speak in public and present educational workshops. Maintain confidentiality, discretion and professionalism. Organize and prioritize work while exercising flexibility, teamwork and humor.
