Manager of Marketing Communications

Diverse and talented marketing communications professionals are encouraged to apply for a Manager of Marketing Communications position on the Marketing & Communications team at Columbus State Community College. The Manager of Marketing Communications will be responsible for supporting marketing and communications outreach that tells the story of Columbus State’s distinctive offer of smart, affordable, career-relevant pathways to high-quality higher education for all students at every stage of life and career. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, this individual will focus primarily on new student recruitment marketing, while also supporting continuing student communications and marketing needs of various partners across the College. The ideal candidate will be an experienced writer and communicator across multiple marketing channels; have experience on a creative team collaborating with other designers, writers, and content creators; be comfortable managing multiple projects and timelines to deliver them within scope and budget; give and receive feedback constructively; and, of course, be passionate about creative work! Accountability, collaboration, and ability to maintain strong relationships with College colleagues are essential.

Who You Are:
You’re a strong writer and communicator who naturally works across channels, especially in the web and digital spaces. You’re adept at implementing marketing communications plans with lots of moving parts, always driving to deliver the right message to the right audience at the right time.

You’re part copywriter, content creator, communicator, brand manager, task master and project manager who has experience working on an in-house creative team, and knows how to manage multiple projects end to end.

You’re as comfortable generating ideas as you are executing them from concept to completion collaboratively with your creative teammates. And you’re always looking for ways to innovate and improve.

You’re a relationship manager who serves as an extension of the Marketing and Communications division to engage College partners, understand their needs, connect them back to marketing goals, and implement solutions that serve both ends.

You’re an eagle-eye proofreader with outstanding copywriting and copyediting abilities.

Under the Guidance of the Marketing Director,

Marketing Communications Planning & Implementation – 35%
Collaborate with Admissions to implement recruitment marketing communications plans and outputs that build awareness among diverse audiences and drive enrollment. Assist in the brainstorming process, generate original, on-brand content for multiple marketing platforms, communicate effectively with target audiences, collaborate with graphic designers to manage layout and visual identity, and coordinate with web team to optimize conversions and integration with the web and digital platforms. Regularly assess messaging and other marketing outputs to ensure they communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

Writing & Content Creation – 35%
Create and edit original copy that is accurate, well-researched, on brand and on time. Assist in other aspects of the creative or research processes to create cohesive, accurate content for websites, social media, email, marketing materials, and other platforms. Actively engage in weekly Creative Team meetings. Constructively give and receive creative feedback on concepts, art, design, copy, brainstorming and idea generation for marketing campaigns, deliverables and opportunities. Review former campaigns and communications to ascertain areas of strength and weakness to continually improve outputs. Contribute to regular assessment of collateral, messaging and imagery to ensure our work authentically reflect College diversity, equity and inclusion goals. Actively participate in informing and implementing DEI strategic goals for marketing and communications.

Relationship and Brand Management – 20%
Collaborate with College partners to anticipate and respond to marketing requests with emphasis on new student enrollment and student retention and success. Meet with cross-functional partners to gather information and assess job requests, serving as the marketing, brand and writing expert who makes recommendations. Understand and articulate marketing goals to colleagues and partners to inform campaign objectives, understand audience, and create effective content for multiple marketing and communication channels. Ensure College name and image are projected according to brand standards and in a positive manner. Serve as the dedicated writer and Marketing liaison for various departments and on College committees.

Marketing Project Management – 10%
Coordinate with key partners and the Marketing & Communications team to ensure high-quality, effective content that’s on brand, connects with diverse and targeted audiences, and is integrated across media channels. Traffic and coordinate assigned jobs, including opening new jobs in department project database, scheduling kick-off meetings, creating timelines, and managing deadlines. Manage projects in order to deliver them on-brand, within scope and within budget throughout the project lifecycle. Work outside of normal office hours as necessary to meet workload demands.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion – Ongoing
Develops and maintains strategic partnerships with diverse groups and communities. Help to ensure the College meets its responsibilities in identifying problem areas and systemic concerns while reporting complaints alleging discrimination. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communication, Marketing, or related writing field and three to five years of experience as a full-time writer, marketing communications professional, or related role. A diverse portfolio of work demonstrating an ability to write both short and long form copy to a variety of audiences for a variety of marketing channels is also required. Experience implementing marketing and communication plans, project management and hands-on experience with Content Management Systems in a higher ed setting preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Higher Education is preferrd.
