Head Athletic Trainer
Job Description
The Head Athletic Trainer develops and maintain the overall sports medicine program for Missouri Western State University Athletics.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Graduate Assistants, Athletic Trainers
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
•Oversees, directs, and schedules day-to-day health care management of student athletes.
•Serves as liaison to professional team physicians.
•Develops departmental procedures regarding emergency management, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries in compliance with NCAA and other governing regulations.
•Monitors environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, heat index, lightning, and other extreme weather situation for events and practices for NCAA and MIAA regulations.
•Prepares requisitions for athletic training equipment and supplies.
•Maintains detailed and accurate inventory log of all OTC medication and properly store OTC medications as dictated by the State of Missouri.
•Reviews and approve athletic-related medical bills and insurance claims to determine accuracy and compliance with NCAA and MWSU .
•Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Physical Education or Kinesiology and two years athletic training experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Required Licensing:
•Athletic Trainers’ Association certification
•State of Missouri Athletic Training license
•First Aid/ CPR certification
•AED certification
•Valid Driver’s License

Physical Demands
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

•Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
•Nights and weekend work required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Sports injury assessment, treatment, management & rehabilitation
•ImPACT (neurocognitive assessment tool for concussions)
•Applicable laws related to medical information (i.e. HIPPA )
•Emergency weather situation requirements per NCAA / MIAA regulations
•Purchasing/bid processes
•Regulations regarding State law & OTC medications
•Processing medical insurance claims
•NCAA rules and regulations
•Appropriate taping, wrapping and use of protective devices
•Communication, as applied to interaction with coworkers, administration, students and the general public
Hours of Work
Varied hours. Nights and weekends required.
