DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
Foothill College is seeking a dynamic, motivated, and collegial full-time Humanities instructor with a strong commitment to the importance of the arts and humanities in the development of global citizenship, critical thinking skills, creative problem-solving approaches, equity-mindedness, and the strengthening of a moral compass to prepare students to contribute meaningfully to contemporary society. The successful candidate will teach a broad range of courses within the discipline that further the students' capacity to synthesize and integrate methods and insights from a variety of intellectual disciplines and develop their ability to approach problems in an integrative manner. Teaching assignments may include on-campus and online.

Standard duties expected of all full-time faculty include development, assessment, and revision of curricula and textbooks; program review; Student Learning Outcomes assessment; maintaining scheduled office hours; attending department/division meetings; pursuing professional growth activities; service on district and/or college committees; and working with other departments and community partners to improve student success. We seek faculty members who are themselves the life-long learners and independent thinkers we wish our students to become. We are looking for educators who are creative and responsible in their use of time and resources, who possess a clear vision for creating a democratic learning environment, and who can translate that vision into practice.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  2. Master's in Humanities OR bachelor's in Humanities AND master's in Art, Drama/Theater Arts, History, Music, Philosophy, Religious Study OR the equivalent (see below requirements to establish equivalency) OR see Interdisciplinary Studies.

  4. Commitment to the teaching profession, its goals and ideals, and enthusiasm for the mission of Foothill College.
  5. Evidence of excellent written and oral skills in English.
  6. Bilingual skills/abilities.
  7. Familiarity with the department and its course offerings.
  8. Knowledge, training and experience with online pedagogy and technology.
