The Classroom Technology Support Specialist is primarily responsible for maintaining Macs in classrooms and labs across campus, including creation, maintenance and deployment of system images for the Mac labs.

Job Duties:

  • Create, maintain, and deploy system images for our Macintosh labs.
  • Responsible for maintaining Macs in classrooms and labs.
  • With the input of various departments, assist in the planning, design and development of projects that enhance and develop areas of technology support including computing facilities, hardware/software resources and policies/procedures.
  • Maintain, respect, and protect the confidentiality of information held within or transferred across the University's computer and communication resources in any format.
  • Communicate, coordinate and direct the work of third parties from a planning and implementation perspective as it pertains to technology, conduit and furniture that will house technology.
  • Provide updates to associated tickets and projects to keep both customers and team members informed of current status or progress. Assist with team responsibility of queue management and ensure tickets are resolved accurately, timely and according to priority.
  • Function as a technical contact with hardware and software vendors as appropriate.
  • Manage and coordinate projects collaboratively with internal/external clients utilizing the IT unit's systems to meet specific client goals.
  • As a member of the team, provide peer support, expertise, and creative problem solving to and for other Technology Services group members and direct client support to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Works closely with a wide range of people (including students, faculty, administrators, and support staff) possessing a wide variety of skills.
  • Working collaboratively with other team members, oversee hiring and training of student workers in all aspects.
  • Provide individual consultation and facilitate group learning experiences to faculty, academic staff, and students on best use of technology in physical and virtual classrooms (e.g. wireless classroom collaboration systems, web video collaboration, interactive displays, etc.).
  • Provide support for the delivery of learning technology services in an environment that is available 24/7 with low tolerance for downtime. Respond to, analyze and resolve classroom AV systems issues and other computer technology problems.
  • Proactively identify, define, lead and document continuous improvement projects with regard to new technologies on projects such as digital signage, imaging and lab security solutions.
  • Keep abreast of alternative and new developments in computer, communication and audio/visual technologies that are relevant to fostering a networked, distributed, and integrated multi-vendor environment.
  • All team members are required to assume appropriate responsibilities while coordinating the efforts of other members of the Technology Services staff and the University community and perform other duties as assigned by Management.
  • Provide equipment maintenance and support.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree plus two years of in-classroom, media and event support experience, an equivalent combination of education and experience, or six years of significant relevant experience.
  • Experience with audiovisual systems in a classroom setting and networked classroom control systems.
  • Working knowledge of Mac operating systems and the ability to image them.
  • Working knowledge of scripting in a Mac environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist people in a courteous, helpful and facilitating manner.
  • Exempt employees are required to work as much time as is necessary to fulfill the requirements of the position without additional compensation, even if the work is performed beyond “normal” work hours.
  • Some evening and weekend hours are required on occasion.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • AV trouble-shooting, design, and installation experience.
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems.
  • Proficient with device management for Macs with a particular focus on JAMF.

Physical Demands:
Ability to lift 30 pounds and climb a ladder.
