Position Summary: The Director of Public Safety oversees the safety and security of the university to provide protection of the university property, residence hall, and the safety and security of all persons on campus grounds.


  • Supervise public safety staff, develop shift schedules, review security operations
  • Update and maintain security policies and procedures
  • Conduct campus - investigations complete with formulated plans of action
  • Evaluate and provide safety and security for campus special events
  • Manage contracted security officers
  • Serve as Crisis Command Center leader for critical campus incidents
  • Create and lead desktop and other types of crisis management exercises
  • Collaborate with IT in managing the RAVE emergency notification system
  • Maintain inventory and distribution of campus building keys
  • Maintain campus first aid supplies
  • Develop emergency response plans and respond to emergency situations
  • Parking lot security
  • Oversee the issuance of parking permits and university ID cards for staff and students
  • Maintain training in CPR/AED
  • Manage video surveillance camera system
  • Manage campus 2-way radio communication system
  • Oversee the public safety budget
  • Perform additional duties as assigned


  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school required, Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in law enforcement, security, or public safety, including at least three years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills including the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse community.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Familiarity with Clery Act, FERPA laws, and contemporary policing strategies.
  • Ability to manage critical incidents
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to be insured under the University's Insurance.
