The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a full-time practice-track faculty positions (Requisition #63621). The anticipated start date is August 15, 2021. The appointment and salary will be made commensurate with credentials.
Successful candidates will assist in developing and executing engineering curriculum for the Department of Biomedical Engineering, with particular emphasis on the Medical Device Innovation & Entrepreneurship Program (MDIEP). The MDIEP is a multi-disciplinary program dedicated to advancing clinical practice through medical device design. The program involves the Colleges of Engineering, Medicine, Business and Design. Candidates will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate engineering courses focused on biomedical engineering in medical device design, usage, or assessment; assist in coordinating capstone experiences which may or may not involve industry collaborators; advise graduate and undergraduate students; and participate in professional service (such as Departmental, College, or University Committees or professional society leadership). In addition, successful candidates will participate in curriculum and course development.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Prior to effective date of the appointment, the following are required: a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field. In addition, a minimum of 3 years practicing medical device design as a full-time employee of a medical device or related consumer product company. Alternatively, those with a BS degree in Biomedical Engineering or closely related field who possess a minimum of 5 years of progressive professional experience in medical device development will also be considered.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering currently has 11 full time faculty, 7 of which are tenured or on tenure track and an enrollment of about 400 undergraduate and 30 graduate students. The Department offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in Biomedical Engineering. The department also has graduate programs that confer Master of Science, Master of Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The Department has research focus areas in Medical Device Design, Medical Imaging, and Regenerative Medicine/Tissue Engineering.
