Buena Vista University is accepting applications for the staff position of Director of Bands.

We seek a dynamic and committed educator and musician with solid performance skills to provide leadership in collegiate bands – marching band, pep band and concert band. The successful candidate must have demonstrated success directing band at the high school or collegiate level as well as have experience conducting lessons on their instrument of choice, and small ensembles. The successful candidate must have demonstrated ability establishing positive relationships with both internal and outside partners, including public/private high schools, and creating an innovative and inclusive learning environment. Responsibilities will include preparing, training, and directing the BVU bands which include marching, concert, jazz, and pep bands. The director will also teach individual lessons on their preferred instrument, will assisting with the coordination of additional instrumental lessons instructors, and will travel with students to competitions and performances. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with Admissions to recruit students who wish to participate in music as part of their college experience. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach college-level Music Appreciation. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred for this 12-month staff position.
