Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or related field. Five years of experience in fundraising, sales, marketing, or in a closely related field. Previous experience in fundraising, high level sales, customer relationship management, public administration, or business administration, planned giving or trust administration.

Nature & Purpose of Position

Cultivates relationships and develops and implements plans for prospective major gift donors and planned giving donors.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding relationships with prospects who have the capacity and affinity to make a major gift or planned giving commitment. Emphasis will be placed on gifts of $25,000 or greater. Serves as a source for the Development team as needed in analyzing data as it relates to prospect management, endowment management, investments, database management, budgeting and reporting. Communicates frequently with assigned prospects to discern and cultivate their interest in making contributions and to secure leads on additional prospects from key internal and external constituents. Develops a strong knowledge of planned gifts and leverages additional support from prospects. Responsible for supervising major gift activities in decentralized units of the University such as a college. Provides support to the Associate Vice President of Development. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Expected to work collaboratively within a complex environment. Must be highly motivated, an energetic self-starter, possess sound judgement and decision making ability, and attention to detail with solid organization ability. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills. Must be able to recognize prospective donors and be persuasive in dealings with them and effectively negotiate a gift commitment. Confidentiality in all matters is essential to ensure trustworthy relationships. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Possess an outgoing and energetic personality and a strong understanding of the university motto: “A measure of a life is its service”. Must be willing to work some evening and weekend hours and complete other duties as assigned.

This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority ( CSA ).
