Instructor - Nursing/Simulation Lab Director
Job Description
The Instructor/Simulation Lab Director responsibilities include leadership, administrative, and management responsibilities in the simulation lab and classroom instruction in the BSN program. Additional responsibilities include scholarship and professional development related to the simulation, teaching and practice of nursing; and providing school/university support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
Teaching responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
• Teaching: teach undergraduate and graduate students in a specific field of expertise; participation in programs that promote instructional development in the discipline; develop and manage curricular materials, ensuring that they meet departmental and university standards; participation in campus initiatives related to teaching such as learning communities, honors programs, and applied learning.
• Scholarship: applies current knowledge and innovations to important practices, and focuses on the nature and improvement of teaching.
• Service: document students’ attendance, participation, and academic progress by giving and grading assignments, projects, quizzes and/or examinations that lead to a final grade; plan and create lectures, in-class activities, and assignments; maintain currency in one’s area of expertise and discipline; provide academic advising and support related to the academic progress of students; is accessible to students outside the classroom, providing ample periods of time for counseling and mentoring students in matters related to academic success; engage in service activities in support of departmental, college, and university needs; service supporting community outreach; and service to relevant.
Simulation Lab responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
• Simulation development, implementation, facilitation, evaluation, and debriefing
• Manage and maintain simulation schedule
• Simulation policy development
• Management and supervision of Lab Teaching Assistants (LTAs), including hiring, training, and scheduling of LTAs
• Orientation of new faculty using a competency-based approach
• Budget planning and oversight for supplies and equipment
• Collaboration with community partners to increase sim lab use and visibility
• Manikin operation, programming, and troubleshooting
• Facilitation of manikin ongoing preventative and as needed maintenance
• Ensure ongoing compliance with the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning ( INACSL ) standards of best practice
• Strategic planning to grow simulation lab use and visibility
• Evaluate student clinical performance in collaboration with nursing faculty
• Maintain current knowledge in nursing and simulation best practices
• Serve as the Chair of the Simulation Team
• Provide data as identified in the BSN program evaluation plan and report outcomes
• Collaborate with Admission/Advisement Director to schedule recruitment events in the simulation lab and have a presence at events as deemed necessary
• Performs other duties of similar nature or level in accordance with MWSU policy and INACSL standards
• Active engagement in ongoing professional development in simulation and teaching
• Initiate and collaborate in simulation lab research and dissemination of findings
• Teaching duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Master of Science in Nursing, licensure as a registered professional nurse in the state of Missouri (or ability to obtain licensure). Minimum of 3 years clinical nursing
experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate in Nursing or related field preferred; previous experience in teaching at the baccalaureate and/or simulation lab experience are preferred.
