Carroll University and the Presbytery of Milwaukee are pleased to announce their Chaplain Residency Partnership for the 2021-22 academic year. This unique opportunity will allow an emerging faith leader to experience the innovative, energetic ministry of the Carroll campus and the heart of the pastorate in a vital Presbyterian congregation. Working halftime in each setting, the resident will receive mentorship, continuing education, diverse ministry experiences, and a sustainable compensation package.

  • Serve at Carroll University
  • Serve in the Presbytery of Milwaukee

Responsibilities:
  • Advance and provide spiritual care services to targeted student populations, including student athletes, student organization leaders, student volunteers, and other groups as assigned.
  • Provide one-on-one spiritual counseling/pastoral care to students of any religious tradition or spiritual worldview.
  • Support campus worship, small groups, bible studies, spiritual wellness offerings, and other spiritual life programming. Initiate programming as directed.
  • Collaborate with other offices of the University in supporting educational programs and initiatives, both in person and virtual. Provide a pastoral presence at various campus events.
  • Further the University's work on diversity, equity, and inclusion, including interreligious awareness and engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with the Student Ministry Team, focusing on spiritual nurture and vocational development.
  • Participate in mentoring and continuing educational opportunities provided as part of the Chaplain Residency Partnership program.
  • Develop and maintain own spiritual disciplines; engage appropriately with the Presbytery of Milwaukee and other partnering ecclesial bodies.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:
  • Rooted in candidate's own faith tradition, spiritually reflective, and self-aware
  • Culturally aware; able to work with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, religious identities, and belief systems; eager to support an inclusive and welcoming environment for all Carroll students and employees
  • Compassionate listener with experience in pastoral care; willingness to expand skills in trauma response and suicide prevention
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, recognize professional limitations, and refer to appropriate offices/services as needed
  • Committed to education as a value of the Reformed tradition and passionate about being a lifelong learning
  • Self-directed and collaborative in work style; ready to both receive and provide constructive feedback in a mutual learning environment; able to manage conflict effectively
  • Energetic, positive, creative, flexible, good-humored, and fun

Education and/or Experience:
  • M.Div. or other theological master's degree strongly preferred; applicants who have completed a minimum of 48 units of an M.Div. may be considered
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Must demonstrate ecclesial standing or affiliation, preference for those seeking to serve in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) or other full-communion denominations

Technology Skills:
  • Must be fluent in various social media platforms, such as Instagram and Snapchat
  • Able to use various applications of Microsoft 365
