About the Position:

Facilities Management is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high quality learning and working environment for the campus community. Facilities Management provides oversight of university resources and assets and is responsible for the development of the University's facilities including land use planning, capital improvement, project development, construction, as well as facilities operations and maintenance including custodial services, landscape services, building trade services, mechanical and electrical, and recycling services. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Lead Groundsworker. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Lead Groundsworker provides supervision and support to a team of up to ten Groundsworkers. Provides general gardening/landscape maintenance services to campus grounds in assigned area of campus, parking lots and/or outdoor facility use coordination and grounds maintenance for Sports Complex. May perform daily maintenance of athletic fields, including softball, baseball, track, soccer, and football field set-up and lining. Coordinates landscape maintenance activities in assigned area of campus with Vocational Innovations. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Two years of experience planting, cultivating, and maintaining flowers and shrubs or in general grounds maintenance work. Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in planting, cultivating, and caring for flowers, shrubs, lawns, and trees. General knowledge of common plant diseases, pests, and weeds, as well as approved methods and materials used in their control and eradication. Knowledge of horticultural methods and materials and planting and growing requirements of plants commonly grown in California. Ability to lay out, coordinate, and supervise the work of others. Ability to provide training, interpret policies, and explain methods and procedures. Ability to inspect and evaluate the work of others. Ability to read and write at a level sufficient for satisfactory job performance. Ability to perform general gardening and grounds maintenance work. Ability to understand and follow written directions and work orders in order to schedule and coordinate facility use and maintenance activities. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to communicate with a variety of individuals including customers, managers, and students.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of methods/materials used in landscape maintenance. Knowledge of methods/materials used in maintenance of athletic fields/facilities.

Work outdoors, exposed to various weather conditions. May be required to work overtime and varied shifts during athletic events season. Will carry a Master key. All Employees will be subject to fingerprinting and a criminal records check.
