About the Position:
The Student Health and Counseling Center strives to support students in achieving their academic, professional, and personal goals. Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is crucial for living a higher quality life and reaching your highest potential. The Student Health and Counseling Center is seeking a Senior Coordinator (Health Educator) with a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind and is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under general direction of the Associate Director of Health Services, acts as the Lead/Senior Coordinator of TitanWell Health Promotion Services, by providing oversight, leadership and vision to the TitanWell team in identifying goals and developing health promotion programs and strategies that complement and are in alignment with Student Wellness. Programs will improve health knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors, promoting health and well-being of CSUF students. Incumbent will assess campus health education needs, plan and design programs, implement programs and evaluate their effectiveness through assessment. The Senior Coordinator of TitanWell plays a central role in informing the campus community about available health services and instructing individuals and groups in the basic principles of health and the optimal and proper utilization of health care and mental health services. Collaboration and developing/maintaining relationships with a broad spectrum of campus and community partners and programs is an essential part of this position. The Senior Coordinator of TitanWell directly oversees the Registered Dietitian, Health Educators, Confidential Campus Advocate, Health Education Assistants, Graduate Assistants, and Peer Health Educators. The Senior Coordinator shall serve as a resource for the Health Education Assistants, overseeing and reviewing creation of new content and assessments, and providing guidance on programming. The Senior Coordinator may assist Health Educators with projects or coverage, as needed. The Senior Coordinator will also fulfill Health Educator duties covering the area of Sexual Health for campus-wide initiatives and provide individual contraception and sexual health counseling. This position participates on the Health Services Leadership Team and contributes to the overall organization planning, assessment and decisions. Working with Associate Director and Director of Health Services, incumbent is responsible for oversight of TitanWell budget and spending. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent in an approved program in health education or a related health field. Equivalent to one to two years of progressively responsible health education experience or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Thorough knowledge of health education theories, research, and program assessment; planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of health education programs; and industry standards for the delivery of health education in higher education. General knowledge of, or the ability to learn quickly, current and emerging college age student health problems and existing methods of intervention and control. Working knowledge of the principles of educational and social psychology and how these apply to health education program; and applicable industry standards and practices for health promotion such as those found in the American College Health Association’s “Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education”

Ability to assess needs and establish or recommend program priorities and goals and develop plans to achieve goals; collect, compile, chart, and analyze data pertinent to health education program planning; plan, organize, conduct or oversee a variety of health education program and activities including discussion groups and workshops; develop educational materials and media such as pamphlets, audio and video materials, and electronic media; present ideas and information accurately, effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing; use computer and web-based information technology systems as a resource for research and providing health education programs; maintain confidentiality consistent with applicable laws and regulations; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, students, medical, and other health professionals, representatives of the news media, and other community groups.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
An American Public Health Association approved master’s degree in Public Health or Health Education with emphasis on health education, a master’s degree in Health Science or Public Health Administration or equivalent and/or national certification are highly preferred. 5-10 years’ experience working in higher education. Prior supervisory experience. Prior experience working in sexual health area. Prior experience overseeing or collaborating with confidential campus advocacy services. Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES)
