About the Position:
The Student Health and Counseling Center strives to support students in achieving their academic, professional, and personal goals. Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is crucial for living a higher quality life and reaching your highest potential. The Student Health and Counseling Center is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse I with a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind and is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Licensed Vocational Nurse I is responsible for providing nursing support to health care providers in the Student Health Center. Collects, records, and monitors patient data, routine measurements, and vital signs. Prepares and completes all documentation needed for patient appointments. Prepares examination and treatment rooms. Sets up treatment and instrumental trays. Instructs patients regarding procedures and manages patient flow. Administers immunizations and therapeutic injections as ordered by providers. Performs therapeutic treatments, diagnostic testing, and nursing procedures as ordered by providers. Measures and fits crutches and instructs students on correct crutch usage. Contacts patients, as instructed by providers and relays information as directed. Works with practitioners to ensure patients' rights to privacy, safety, and confidentiality. Serves as a liaison between other nursing staff, medical records, clinicians, front desk staff, and students. Provides limited health education and information to patients, as specifically directed by providers and registered nurses. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Possession of a valid license as a Vocational Nurse issued by the State of California. Thorough knowledge of nursing care principles and practices. Thorough knowledge of basic medications and their effects. Ability to quickly learn related clinic procedures and handle equipment required to patient care in a Student Health Center. Ability to make accurate observations and exercise sound judgment within the areas of assigned responsibility. Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions, understand basic medical terminology, and regularly exercise professional nursing practices. Ability to establish cooperative relationships with students, providers, and co-workers. Ability to observe and record observations. Possession of a current, valid CPR/AED certificate.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with a college campus population and sensitivity towards patients of various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Nursing experience in a Student Health Center. Experience working with an electronic health record system. Excellent injection and immunization skills. Knowledge of current normal lab values. Knowledge of professional nursing principles and practices.
