Lecturer in WWII Studies

Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ (Job #16758) The School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies (SHPRS) at Arizona State University (ASU) is pleased to invite applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Lecturer with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021. The faculty rank of Lecturer denotes a scholar who has significant teaching experience and who, in addition to teaching in their area of specialization, serves the growing World War II Studies MA program. This is a fiscal-year position with an expected workload of 80% teaching and 20% service. Subsequent annual renewal is desired, contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university.

The School seeks applicants committed to outstanding teaching, student-centeredness, and service in the program. The successful candidate will primarily teach and serve in the online educational offerings associated with the School’s World War II Studies partnership with the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana. Those offerings include a Master’s degree in World War II Studies and a suite of non-credit continuing education courses.

The position’s primary duties include:

Together with the program lead, the successful candidate will coordinate with scholars from the National World War II Museum and the faculty and staff from across Arizona State University to improve and expand course offerings in the MA and continuing education programs.

Teach foundational and capstone courses in the World War II Studies MA.

In collaboration with Museum and ASU staff, the successful candidate will help with admissions, program planning, and curricular revision.

Service may include participating in unit or college committees, task forces, and other institutional and organizational bodies.

Engaging with the scholarship of online teaching and learning to ensure the production of high-quality educational experiences that align with best practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in History or a related field with an emphasis on the histories of World War II and its cultural implications by time of appointment.
• Evidence of successful teaching at the university level

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience teaching in an online environment
• Ability to teach the history of World War II from an interdisciplinary and global perspective
• A scholar who explores diverse experiences in WWII
• Ability to effectively communicate in multiple formats to diverse audiences (e.g., social media, conference presentations, continuing education)
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment with Museum and ASU faculty, staff, and academic professionals.
